DANIEL'S REVIEW:
Here we go. The highly anticipated premiere of ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ has just aired. So is it bad, is it good, and was it worth all this hype? Let’s go find out. I really liked how this episode starts out, giving us references to ‘The Avengers’ like Iron Man and Thor and the big green guy, the Hulk, and Agent Coulson returns. YES! Coulson returns to much fanfare, or just me geeking out that Coulson returns to Marvel Universe. The action is actually pretty good and the effects are amazing, for a television show, and the opening was the episode’s great strengths. I also liked Maria Hill (played by Cobie Smulders) reprising her role from ‘The Avengers’. I hope we see more of her, as she was a good welcoming return in the first episode. I also like the characters, most of them. Skye and Agent Ward were the show’s best characters, excluding Agent Coulson. Skye was the show’s humour, and she made me laugh a lot, most of her lines had me laughing out loud. Ward is also another strong contender as he balanced the serious tone, yet he also had some humour, which I liked. I also liked Mike Peterson, struggling whether to be good or be an anti-hero, so I hope we see more of him, probably not, but he was an enjoyable character to watch as he struggles to provide money for his son. Melinda May, the ex-field agent, was good, but I hope we see more of her character develop and not that she is the only one in the group that knows how to fight. Now we have the other two, which I don’t like at all, yet. Fitz and Simmons have some funny lines, but nothing building up with their characters, which is very disappointing, besides the other characters being good, these two need more develop as I thought they were too silly as these scientists. Hopefully they prove me wrong as the series progresses. The episode, in my opinion, had some heart, especially the last few scenes. Overall, a great start to the series, and as a Marvel fan that I am, I am looking forward to the next episodes, as I was a little disappointed, but not by much, as besides the two weak characters I mentioned already, this first episode is great, with some great action, visual effects and a good story, ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ is off to a great start as the episode was in fact, super.
