DANIEL'S REVIEW:
First review for ‘Pokémon’, first review for an animated series, first review for an anime, it’s a review of firsts this one. Now I’m am not that big of a ‘Pokémon’ fan. I was when I was a kid, but have grown out of the show. But going back into the world of ‘Pokémon’ was surprisingly enjoyable and I dare say that, nostalgic. The episode presents itself as a video game, which was a nice fitting addition of how they present it as an anime and a video game. I thought that was super inventive and very clever. This series follows the videogames of ‘Pokémon Red’ and ‘Pokémon Blue’, the very first ‘Pokémon’ videogames back in 1996 which started the ‘Pokémon’ evolution and the massive phenomenon it has become nearly 20 years ago. The episode follows Red learning how to become a Pokémon trainer as he adventures out trying to capture Pokémon and collect all 151 Pokémon in the pokedex. Good luck with that Red, but I’m sure he can do it, 6 down, 145 more to go. It was great to see my favourite two Pokémon battle because Charmander and Squirtle are so adorable and awesome. ‘Pokémon Origins’ was pretty good, to be honest, which surprised me a lot. The animation is surprisingly great, with some nice little 3D animations thrown in there with the 2D world. It brought nostalgia to this episode as Red tries to capture a Pidgey, which made me remember the first episode of ‘Pokémon’ of Ash running into a Pidgey. Also Brock was great, I don’t know if this is set in the same world as the ‘Pokémon’ anime, but it was great to see Brock again. For people who don’t know Brock was one of Ash’s friends in the original ‘Pokémon’ anime. I loved how the characters in the background of Red and Brock’s battle were saying “not very effective”, giving a nod and a little reference to the ‘Pokémon’ games when they say in the textbox below that it’s not very effective. Overall, had a great time watching the first episode of a four part miniseries, and was a nice welcome return back into the ‘Pokémon’ world.
